Chicago Moves to Linux

Large Enterprise Business: Technology News: "Using HP servers running the Red Hat Linux operating system, Chicago's new system will issue more than one million vehicle stickers annually, replacing an aging mainframe application. The move may be the first of many instances where open-source solutions replace the city's expensive to- maintain proprietary systems.

Chicago CIO Chris O'Brien said the city is exploring open-source solutions to squeeze cost from its IT infrastructure. [more]"
